Are Wifi connections to Radar/Autopilot dependable

Although I have always hard wired my Radar,Autopilot and instruments there are those who choose Wifi.

I would appreciate hearing from those who use Wifi relating to their experience regarding dependability.

It has always seemed risky to me with the chance of it going out at the worst times.
However willing to be educated.

Re: Are Wifi connections to Radar/Autopilot dependable

Strictly anecdote, but I have far more trouble with WiFi connections on my boat than with any wired network.

That usually seems due mostly to the higher level of complexity of the network architecture than any inherent issue with the radio connection.

I have so far managed to avoid WiFi for anything I consider mission critical, and plan to keep it that way for the foreseeable future.

The WiFi radars that I know of have a reduced bit rate so lower # of spokes and pixels per spoke so as not to overload the WiFi channel.
