Anyone ever hacked the Nasa Clipper Duet NMEA to give 0183 Output?

Hi,

our log is faulty and a friend was so kind to give me a NASA Clipper Duet Display with paddle wheel sensor.

I was very happy to finally get spped through water data to be able to calculate proper wind data.

Unfortunately I just found out that it does not put out NMEA data, which I'd need as all our data goes into an NMEA 0183 network and on to a PC running OpenCPN.

There is a hack to add NMEA 2000 output to the Duet (https://open-boat-projects.org/de/nmea2000-fuer-nasa-clipper-duet-echolot-log/

Still, this would require to add a NMEA 2000 backbone and multiplexer to our system which in turn means it gets close to the price of buying the expensive original sensor for our faulty log.

Now, here is the question. Did anyone successfully hack the NASA Clipper Duet to output NMEA 0183 instead of NMEA 2000?

Thanks for links & helpful thoughts.

I also found this, but I'm not sure how to make the connections. Maybe someone here has done it and can share some pictures?

You could ask in the segeln-forum.de thread, the output of a nmea0183 sentence is in fact easier than the nmea2000, so are the connections to the micro controller

Are you wanting to use an Arduino or other microcontroller, and wire/program yourself, or looking for a ready-made solution?

I think the former is something I could help with, if I had one. If you don't find an easier path, I'd be happy to do it open source w/ easy instructions if someone wants to send me one to test with ; )
