Re: where can I leave my catamaran on the East coast for a couple of months?

Check out the marinas in League City, Texas. It is well inland, and a short drive from Houston. After Hurricane Harvey, the flooding from which devastated Houston, I was in League City on business. I saw several marinas with floating pontoons and extended pylons; the boats there got through the hurricane with no difficulty.

Urban, in my post #3 I assumed that you were asking about travelling along on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Now it appears that you were actually asking about leaving your boat on the ICW for 5 months. With that, I agree with the other posters: Do not plan on leaving your boat anchored along the ICW for 5 months!

Galveston would certainly not be my choice in hurricane season,

My choice would be to not own a boat during hurricane season, but statistically Galveston isn’t to bad as they average a major hurricane every 20-25 years?

I would consider renting a mooring to keep your boat on if I were you. It will most likely be the cheapest option besides anchoring and is common practice here in the US.

What if you came up part of the Great Loop? Maybe from Mobile, AL?

Do you have to unstep the mast on that leg?
