Question what is the shelf life of 3M 40100 uv

I have several tubes of 3m 4000 uv sausage packs with a manufacturing date of 2015. The ends of the packs are hard but in between is not.
Does anyone know the shelf life of 4000 uv?
Intended use is to attached a teak frame to the boat that will be the base for an aluminum hatch.

The shelf life of almost any adhesive is generally considered to be one year past its 'best by' date or date of manufacture, whichever is later.
I'm almost certain that the tubes you have of 4000 are probably unusable but even if you could get product to flow, why would you want to take a chance that it would perform as it should?

Re: what is the shelf life of 3M 40100 uv

3M '4000 UV' is a Silane Modified Polymer adhesive.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store product at 60-80°F (16-27°C) for maximum storage life. Higher temperatures can reduce normal storage life. Lower temperatures can cause increased viscosity of a temporary nature. Rotate stock on a “first in-first out” basis.
When stored at the recommended conditions in the original, unopened container this product has a shelf life of 15 months from date of manufacture for cartridges and sausage packs. When stored at recommended conditions, the shelf life is 15 months from date of manufacture for 3 ounce tubes.

I keep some cartridges of 4200UV and one 5200 in the freezer if obtaining new is difficult where I’m cruising.

If allowed to come to ambient temperature before use (e.g., thaw overnight...) they dispense fine and don’t seem to be affected. (That I can notice anyway. ) I’ve use cartridges stored frozen for 4 years and they seemed fresh once thawed. I have done this with other adhesives and sealants with success as well.

Recommend or not, it is better than nothing when new cannot be readily acquired.

Cheers! Bill

Ditto. Keep them in the freezer especially after opening. A trick I learned from a boat dealer years ago. Of course a use for it was normally before 6 years had passed. Probably 3-4 yrs anyway. Sometimes if they were bought in bulk the lot goes in the freezer and used as needed.

If working on a project that required some today and more in a day or so use the fridge and sitting out 30 minutes and good to go.

Lower temp keeps tips from hardening so fast if well capped.
