Thanks for the heads up. In opposing current and wind as is often the case here, the bow points off the wind with the anchor trailing behind the stern.

There are no slack tides. Very quickly the conditions will change and the boat will spin on its keel. If the bow turns away from the anchor rode, it will wrap about every third time. This is with 20 feet of chain.

Philip, you've been through a lot moving the boat this far. Exhaustion makes good decisions hard. You are wise to get a room. Dry out, eat and sleep and then you will figure out the best option.

Phil, an anchor sally is cheap and is better than a short length of chain. A large coffee can 1 1/2 foot of rebar and a partial bag of Sacrete. I'm sure someone will say one can be made better but since $ seems an issue? The can, lead and a SS rod would be better.

We put out target bid of $1.50/foot. That's somewhere around $1500, with the haulout and dropping the mast. Plus I'll ride with the shippers. It's cheaper than I could get it home by sailing it and leaves money to work on the boat.

I thought long and hard about this. This is not a rash decision. Staying at the hotel while I wait on their arrival will just be gravy.

There is another option. I've been thinking about hiring a delivery captain as crew. That would mean we could go outside which would greatly cut the time for the trip. The cost about $2,000 plus provisions.

Going to get a room.

Good luck on that amount. I think it is beyond optimistic.

An anchor Sally would be great if I had either a windlass or crew. Both are expensive. But that is on my list.

Are you sure you know what a sally is? Crew or windless is not an issue.

Without an engine, pulling a 25 Danforth out of this muck is barely doable. Adding a weight to absorb shock and change the angle of the scope just seems like the proverbial straw, y'know what I mean?

Anyway, I'm working on the fuel system. I'll be back a little bit later.

Phil, an "anchor Sally", known in much of the world as a "kellet" is lowered down the main rode on its own bit of string, after the anchor is set. When weighing anchor, you pull the kellet up first, and thus it does not add to t he effort of weighing the bower anchor. Any weight of say 15-20 lbs that can be shackled to the main rode will work. No fancy hardware required.

Phil,

The sally is pulled up prior to the anchor. It is slid down the rode with its own retrieval line. Something over your keels draft. A pelican hook on the rode such that it can be taken off easily. The first one I saw in the anchor locker I asked what the hell is that.

I hope it is useful info..

Re: The Nauti One, an Endeavor 32

Thank you Cadence, thank you Jim. I thought I knew what it was. I'd only seen them in drawings and didn't know how it was used. Darn coastal sailors anyway. Please forgive me. I'm tired and grouchy.

Oh yeah, both the starter and the injector pump have quit working. There's no fuel coming out of the high pressure injector lines. I keep wondering what I did to deserve this.

There doesn't seem to be anything amiss with the fuel system between the tank and the engine. The return lines are getting plenty of fuel. The filters are all full of diesel. There is no air in the lines. Plenty of pressure at the banjo bolts.

The rain and arctic cold arrive tomorrow. Time to consult hotels.com

Maybe a long bridle could reduce instability when towing or when in anchor. There could be also other tricks like tying the anchor to the rear, or using some small "sail" in the aft to stabilize the boat.

In principle I'd be available as crew, but I'm a bit far away. I'm sure you will get also sunshine in due time. While waiting for that, a good night sleep in a hotel is maybe the best thing to do.
