I saw it almost a month ago in
Newport, but it was gone when I got back down there from
Maine. You know it's cool, but... Like so many other "boats" in the
Newport harbor, it really struck me and my (completely apolitical) buddy as a sort of sad commentary on what's gone seriously out of whack in our society over the past generation. Sort of like those old robber baron mansions on the Newport cliff walk. They're pretty to look at, but I'm glad our country eventually woke up from that era.
That's been a frequent topic of conversation on this
cruise from the South up to
Maine and back this summer-- with lots of different
family and friends as crew. We see these megayachts. We
anchor off these shorelines bristling with megamansions. What the heck happened?
At least the shoreline and the
water are still beautiful. And most of the folks you meet are wonderful. And I'm living proof that people of limited means can enjoy it by water

. (Readers of some other threads may remember I'm the guy who paid $2000 for his
boat.) What the heck am I complaining about? I'm having as much fun as the owner of the Maltese Falcon, but for $400 million less.
It is, after all, a great country! (With apologies to the hard working Canuck who started this thread

)
