Mail delivery Australia

Hello all.
This is mostly for cruisers in Australia.
I am just about to start living on my yacht. To start off with, i am moving by road from Perth to NSW.
Once in NSW, i will be there for 3 months then going up to QLD.
I also work in PNG in the medical field.

I guess my problem is, what is the best way to have a fixed mail address even though I move around?
Others must have the same problem.
I was thinking of a post office box and have that sent to wherever I am on a regular basis.
Any suggestions.?
I dont have family who can do this and the hospital will not accept private mail.
As we all know, we have to maintain a postal address in Australia.
I will be moving frequently for about 6 months.
Regards

Re: Mail delivery Australia

Have you asked your current marina if they will look after your mail? Some are very cooperative.

Otherwise a PO box or a mail service would be your main options.

Re: Mail delivery Australia

We have been working overseas for years and mail always caused problems until we got a PO box .
You do however need to talk to the post office as there are physical limitations to the amount of mail held and costs involved to forward on.
Overtime we have tried to move everything to the electronic versions but sometimes no alternative to snail mail.

Re: Mail delivery Australia

Thanks guys. Yeah, I was thinking of a post office box. Oz post said there are some limitations. I have seen a commercial company that will even open mail and scan it etc.

As I will be marina hopping for a few months, i will see how i go.
I wonder what the full time cruisers do? Maybe most here, like me, are part time.

Maybe i was expecting a magic answer Is..store mail, call up and have it sent as a package of mail.

Sounds fair. So long as you pay the bills also.

I use www.hotsnail.com.au for my Australian based postal mail. Been using them for over 5 years.

Re: Mail delivery Australia

This has been an ongoing problem for me years. I have a PO box that I have redirected to either my daughter or somewhere I am when in Oz. I've had difficulties dealing with Aus Post from a distance and would recommend a private organization. You need someone you can actually telephone and speak to a human being if there's a problem. I've almost eliminated snail mail but I think it's just about impossible to do so completely. I just clicked on that website above. It could be the answer to the problem for me.

Re: Mail delivery Australia

Yep, had a house over in Fourth Ave Bongaree but have since moved over to Woorim. I still kept the Bongaree Po Box because Jack and Sue who run it are great with handling my mail/parcels when I'm away at sea working or of sailing my own boat......
John

Edit: Of the three of us here from Bribie I think I am the only one with a mono (Ketch), I would love to keep her at the marina in Pumicestone Passage but can't get under the bloody bridge...
