In the US version, at the connection level (see illustration), in the "output filtering" section, you have the choice between "transmit sentences" or "drop sentences".

Does the expression "drop sentences" mean "to reject the sentences" or does it mean "to send the sentences"?

Neither. it means that the person in the sorting office will drop your message on the floor, it will get lost under a bench, and swept into the bin. Put more simply, the message will silently disappear.

There was a lengthy discussion about filters on github. My personal opinion is that having both an inclusion or exclusion list for both receive and transmit is a bit silly.

But to answer your question, from a translation point of view where you are looking for absolute clarity.

"Drop sentences" means to "reject the sentences".

In my opinion better wording would be:

For receiving sentences, the two options could be "Accept" or "Reject"(or "Keep and "Discard")

For transmitting sentences, the two options could be "Send" and "Do not Send"

Alternatively, to use similar terminology for both Receive and Transmit, the two options could be "Include" and "Exclude"

Thank you for your reply.
So, this means that translating this expression (drop sentences) as “send the sentences” is completely wrong and therefore misleading!
For OpenCPN, in a language other than English, this expression would therefore have to be translated as "remove the sentences", for example, is that correct?

This means that the French translation is false and can therefore be misleading.
On the attached illustration, the two items are indicated: “sentences sent” and “send sentences”! (see attached illustration)

I liked River's reply and thought it quite humorous, and reading it didn't waste time.

I did though feel, as I'm sure we all did, the pain from the snapping bark of the OP, and wondered if perhaps he/she was inadvertently wearing their thong back to front?

From where I come from, I take that to mean I'm wearing my left thong on my right foot and vice-a-versa. Depending on one's origins, they might also be called flip-flops, sandals or as you might say, jandals.

But then perhaps you really meant to say they got their knickers in a knot.

Language and colloquialisms can get you into a bit of trouble.

Hello Schnapsy, hello all,

The problem was posed to me directly by Zuod, 28 days ago, on the "hisse-et-oh" forum that you know. And we had discussed it and I had asked the Cruisers Forum.

And the version currently present on Crowdin was changed on April 9, 2024 and I replaced the previous translation, which still appears with version 584 of OpenCPN. I put: “Do not send these sentences” into French in the file opencpn.pot

Since that day, Pavel has shortened the translation by putting, May 3, two days ago: "Do not send". It is therefore this version which will appear with the next version of OpenCPN.
