Are you sure it is driven by an electric motor? It would make sense. I has always assumed it was mechanically driven through shafts, gears and a transmission. Charging a battery bank and running an electric motor would certainly make sense but it looks to me like they were running a diesel when docking.

If it is photoshopped and a hoax, someone has gone to a lot of trouble. Here's the earliest semi-authoritative source I've found. The BBC in 2001!

It was apparently built at Multihull Centre, the same people who bought and are rebuilding the Gunboat 55 Rainmaker

I’d love to see and hear that thing in action. Probably like living in a clock. Yeah, I’m going with no just because. It is a clever boat though.
