Re: If I Don't Agree With You am I Therefore wrong?
If you bring boat and crew back intact and with even numbers of digits and limbs, you were right.
If not, we may have the basis of a debate.
The rest is lubberly blather.

Yes. Thanks Julie. I'm so forgetful of the great line from somebody like "I'm at the mercy of anyone who can irritate me."

Without the audio, lots gets lost. Without being face to face, even more gets lost. The reader is left with only their own interpretation and rarely is it accurate. Long posts rarely get read in their entirety. Most people want to respond before they have read the whole thing, just like interrupting someone in conversation but the writer of the post doesn't know they are being interrupted. Things can quickly go downhill.
I put in seven more years as a forum moderator and wrote several "How to Communicate on a Forum" articles. Despite rave reviews, the effect of trying to tame the masses never lasted.
After I left the admin/mod role, I decided the only way for me to deal with the negative side of forum communication is to remember it has no effect on me or my life and in no way defines me. If I get angry or upset, I am the only one hurt. If I carry a grudge, I am the only one burdened with it. I prefer to keep the load lightened. Peace...

WOW Julie. If you can be hurt by total faceless strangers on a forum, just put yourself in this guys shoes----http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f2/regret-to-inform-have-lost-my-boat-off-honduras-108453-23.html-----
It really brings things in perspective.

Here on CF you are only at mercy once, as after that there is a magic ignore list that can be placed into service to see that it doesn't happen again

I would disagree!
You are only at the mercy of anyone you let irritate you.
In any event the ongoing thread:-

Demonstrates that the answer to this thread is a YES!

Hi Julie! Anyone who picks on what I have to say, gets this: "Your opinion of me has no cash value!"

The same folks that you avoid in an anchorage, that you avoid in a marina, and that you run from the dinghy dock before they arrive are here also giving their standard rap. I look at the condition of folks boats, look at where they have been, look a at their credentials, look at their education and judge their comments. It never fails to show a flaw. Never argue w/ a fool, you can feel your self slipping when you do.
There are many folks here w/ good advise and you just have to weed the rest out. Some times even at the dinghy dock I listen to the 'crazies' so I have material at the bar. Rich

Too true, if you allow someone to make you angry, then you are giving them the power over you.

Re: If I Don't Agree With You am I Therefore wrong?
I have always been 'crazy', but it has kept me from going insane.
Idiosyncrasies can be fun with the right person...or
I heard someone say; "If you spot it, you got it" which caused me to start enjoying seeing my ladies butt more, and quit noticing those three little pimples so much. Not sure what happened after a period of time, but either those pimples went away, or I somehow learned to not see them. Watching the way it wiggled as she walked was a lot more enjoyable. Perception is surely a weird, and wonderful thing at times. Time to clean my glasses. See ya...

Re: If I Don't Agree With You am I Therefore wrong?
Cruising through Greece brings a whole new meaning to trying to understand a different viewpoint LANGUAGE & CUSTOMS!!!
At times it's quite hard to judge your position simply because Greeks talk loudly and sound argumentative simply due to their manner, you can easily believe you are copping talking to when in fact they are demonstratively in agreement with you.....
