Re: Galveston Meet Up
Oh, I just thought of something, do we want a speaker of some sort? Maybe a mini seminar about cruising or weather routing on Saturday. I got some friends, might be able to swing a circumnavigator or cruising author...?

Re: Galveston Meet Up
I added a poll to get a head count, if we can get more than 15 people I should be able to get a decent speaker.

Re: Galveston Meet Up
Going thru the past threads there are close to 15 already. I think it will be between 35 an 75 people. Looking at 1200+ hits on the thread an the general chat so far. Looks like 9 to 17 boats is my guess. thats 15 dozen eggs, 10 lbs bacon, 20 pounds of hashbrowns , 5 lbs coffee, and 10 loaves of bread for toast. I will help out on breakfast. I am planning 10 packs of hotdog buns, 10 packs of dogs with mustard, catchup, relish, cheese, onions, peppers,6 cases of assorted drinks an a case of chips. Which is for Friday afternoon in the pool area. I have a Lance Camper on my truck and we can cook breakfast at the docks for Sunday. For the main group that needs rides, My truck and camper can carry 6 in the cabin and 8 to 10 in the camper for using as a schuttle. My boat also has stove and Microwave we can use. I will donate 2 lbs of Starbucks pikes peak and a few lbs of Comunity coffee and I have 2 old style perculators that cook quick. I have a small blender on the boat for Gordo's Margaritas. So we are down to paperplates, plasticware, cups, nametags, napkins, orange juice and whatever I have forgotten. So what say you Ocean Girl and Seadog and anyone who cares to pitchin on this gathering? please add your coments. Oh I will be there a week early for any needing help or whatever.

Re: Galveston Meet Up
Yep, we will pitch in and be there early. I will start burning thru my email list looking for speaker options. Weather, SSB, offshore prep, are some topics I'll see about. Unless someone has suggestions..?
I'm still a little weak from my recovery, so I may not be able to work (hauling chairs or such) but my hubby is very strong

Re: Galveston Meet Up
I just had an idea :-) anyone interested in a soft shackle workshop? Or offshore basic sail repair?
My friend owns North Sails in Kemah, or I can hunt down my knot dude friend, it's not rocket science but to have a pro there could teach us other useful knots and make sure our soft shackles are up to snuff.
Just an idea.
I think a workshop would be more fun, instead of a speaker where we just sit and listen to. But if a speaker is preferred, I have a friend who solo circumnavigated( canal and cape of good hope), or a couple who just got back from a 13 year RTW(via Red Sea).
Anyways just throwing ideas out.

Re: Galveston Meet Up
IF I can make it, I'll talk with a boat neighbor about joining me. He recently replaced his entire standing rigging with Dynex Dux. To say he knows about splicing, soft shackles, etc would be an understatement. I think he may be a member here but not sure. His plans, as well as mine, were to be in Florida by April so I'll bounce it off of him the next week.
