Cruisers passing through Ft. Lauderdale area

Hey All,

We are going through our US sail training courses and are now sailing weekly (either rent or go with friends). If any sailing cruisers are passing through the area, we would gladly buy you a drink (Waxy O Connors is pretty cool) in exchange for some cool stories. Looking forward to cruising eventually, but wanted to have enough experience before embarkation (hence the courses).

We live pretty close the se 17th street marina's.

Also, always up to meet new sail enthusiasist in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

Ciao,
Benjamin & Heather

Re: Cruisers passing through Ft. Lauderdale area

We always go to Southport Raw Bar (16th St.?) when we're in Ft. Lauderdale. They allow dinks to tie up and most cruisers anchor in Lake Sylvia, just a short hop across the waterway from Southport Raw bar. I f you go there you'll see a dink or two tied up. It's a good stop for grocery shopping (Publix, WinnDixie) and Total Wines (17th St. Causeway) although West Marine is a bit of a hike. Say hello to the folks with faded clothes and bad haircuts.... cruisers. Most cruisers will appreciate a lift more than a drink. They might even invite you aboard and regale you with lies. Thanks for the invitation. We'll be there soon.

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, a ride would be just fine. You are probably right about the ride. It is a little easier to cart groceries in a car than on a bike or paying for a taxi. Would love to hear some lies if your in town! LOL.

Re: Cruisers passing through Ft. Lauderdale area

I'd love to hear from you directly (skipgundlach at gmail dot com) as we're coming in tomorrow (2-16) from Lake Worth, outside.

We are 7' draft and are told that if we hug the sea wall next to the yachting center as we come out of the ICW, other than a shallow spot in the lake, we'll be ok.

However, being altogether unfamiliar with the area, and none of our various sources showing addresses, we'd also love to have a definition of how to get from Lake Sylvia to the said dock, other than just 'across the ICW'

Thanks.

How long are you planning to hang around Ft. Lauderdale?
