It is definitely a concern ! Lol. So far I have indeed been using my phone, but I'm about to get a GoPro Hero 7. Dropping my phone in the drink would really suck the fun right out of it.

And it is fun to let non-sailor friends see what it is your so passionate about. Even my 80 year old mother-in-law is now subscribed to our channel so she can keep us with us.

That is how it started when I was rving. Then more and more friends and family started following, and I ended up getting messages like "no trip report today?"
