Sailing apps and CF search engine

As I am immersing myself in sailing, I have this idea that I want to replace my "downtime" phone usage with sailin related apps. Rather than socail media or games or netflix, I want to have nautical related items on my phone. This forum is a good start towards that. I tried a sailing simulator that I did not like. I was wondering if there were other apps. Even a crossword puzzle using sailing terms.

So I tried a few searches for topics here, and found nothing. Either it is a stupid idea, or I am not using the search engine properly. I have since read the sticky in the intro forum that discusses the limits of the search function. Any additional advice on using it efficiently, will help me to not ask a lot of ignorant questions. Thank you

ps, the "g" button on my keyboard does not work well. I am sorry, I try to catch it when I notice.

Interested in celestial navigation? Try "CelestialNavigation"; it may not be a good learning tool, because it does all the work for you. to play around with the concept, try "CamSextant."

For nav on your phone try "SEAiq."

Just as a follow up:

I downloaded the ASA's Sailin Challenge app this morning. I have only used it for about 10 minutes, but it was perfect for what I needed. I had some downtime, pulled out the phone, and worked on some vocabulary quizzes.

Good on you.

Fwiw, use the CF Custom Google Search (under the Search menu) for ideas. It works as if it were Google. It is sensitive to concepts.

The regular search function requires exact matches and is case sensitive, so it is only suited to searches of threads you already know exactly what the title of is. So it can lead to frustration. You can use it to search for threads by particular people.

Neat idea - thanks for bringing it up.

Mind you, a search on the App Store for "sextant" also brings up a lot of ... other stuff.

I've seen this posted in some threads. I can't seem to find it on my phone, maybe it will be clearer from the computer. I am sure it's a case of looking directly at it without seeing it.

Sorry, I access only by laptop, so I cannot tell you specifically about phone. However, moderator <Adelie> does access by phone. Maybe he'll show up here and be able to tell you more.

If you have an android phone, Sextant Stars is a great app for learning the night sky. There is also Google Sky Map, and my favorite celnav suite by Andres Ruiz González: Navigational Algorithms. Frank Reed's GPS Anti-Spoof is also a very useful app. And of course there is OpenCPN.

I am unfamiliar with what is available for iPhones, sorry.
