Common sense (surely) says use a cheap wooden spatula to scrape off excess growth.
Anything left can be anti-fouled over. First coat with thinnners to penetrate, and two coats to follow. More than that is a waste, less is a cheap job.
If you've paid 500 for hauling in/out what's the point of saving 50 on anti-fouling.
