OTOH, it got me shopping and understanding boat insurance, and there are better policies out there, with companies that understand marine.
Left us hanging there: Who did you find IYO to be a better alternative, and why?

I thought I posted earlier. American Modern Insurance Group. Agreed value $450k, premium $4100, Bahamas and hurricane zone coverage with no haulout. 2% deductible, 10% named storm., etc

My comment to OP was basically that we did a lot of major improvements on our previous boat, and insurance still considered it to be a 2002.

Second place was a policy from Chubb, at around $5k. BoatUS wanted $9k. I never figured that one out, and especially since they have the insurance on my fishing boat!

Thank you.
Sorry that I missed it if you mentioned it before, and thus appreciate repeating it . I will act on your recommendation.

Currently I am at Anglo/Puerto Rico insurance via Guardian at agreed value $375k for $650pm.

Re: BoatUS way overpriced, switched to Allstate

According to a local surveyor BoatUS Geico was paying out for things they should never have insured and that was a reason for the doubling of rates. I’m sure many people want to take the insurance company to task for everything including normal wear and tear, I have had zero claims and obviously don’t want to have any claims for 25 years of boating. I don’t want someone who screws me over every single year so I can get a gel coat repair for hitting a piling.

The short answer from Geico:

Quote:
Provides liability coverage that may be required by a marina's dock contract.
What it boils down to is you can get separate liability limits for overall use and while at your home dock. Say you want $500k in liability insurance. Your marina requires a $2million liability policy. Geico/BoatUS will write you a policy that has $500k general liability coverage but extends the coverage limit to $2million for damage you cause to your marina.
