Pay wall. Do you have a better link to the story somewhere that is not selling subscriptions? Putting that link up is basically like giving that paper free advertising on CF

Good thing thomm wasn't in its way.

Too bad the newsies didn't explain how tornados make homes implode. It would help people respect the weather phenomena.

Thanks Ann.

Smith Island is a bit North of where I grew up and recently sailed to a few weekends ago. Not much though.

When anchored off Deep Creek where I bought my Bristol 27 at night you could easily see the lights of Smith and Tangier islands. Watt's Island is uninhabited.

But they have similar accents as we did back in the day.

My boating stomping grounds were Watt's Island and Tangier Island when on Bayside and Cedar Island and Paramore Islands on seaside

Note to all: Hold your cell phone in "landscape" mode if you're going to take a video which may end up on the news!

It's so frustrating looking at something like this through a tall, narrow slot.

Anyway, that's terrifying. I'm glad no one was seriously injured. Could have been a LOT worse.

BTW, the problem isn't houses imploding, but exploding. The sudden drop of pressure can be dangerous if the house is too tight. I'm not sure whether it would be smart to open some windows or not. We don't get many tornadoes around here and they don't really push preparedness.

A bit further South maybe 80 miles or so there were several helicopters turned over and damaged including H-53's which are not light weight coming in at 46,000 lbs.

We also had tons of rain during this even with 8"-10" standing water in some spots.

This a week or so earlier.

We have been having these storms now in the afternoon on these super hot days for about 2 weeks now.

Everything is by boat on Tangier and Smith Islands.

They do have backup main generators though for power ...I know Tangier does so I'm thinking Smith Island does as well.

This was a wonderful film. Thank you for sharing it. I’m not clear on what the damage was to Smith Island in this new tornado?
