Heard about a sailboat that called for rescue near Lord Howe Island due to steering problem and water ingress.

I volunteer for Marine Rescue NSW and was on radio duty Monday morning. The Zone commander came into the radio room and asked if we had heard anything about this as she had been phoned by AMSA that morning (she was the duty officer). The boat is too far from Lord Howe Island for the boat based there to assist (and the conditions were way too bad too).

Marine Traffic shows two tankers very close to each other about 350 km east of LHI. The video from the AMSA plane shows GPS of 31 49.4S 162 40.0E (roughly). This is 341 km from LHI rather than the 305 km stated in the AMSA report in the SMH. There is also a recreational vessel heading directly towards the tankers and perhaps 230 km WSW of the tankers. This may be the Police boat. Normally NSW Police boats come up as light blue rather than pink, but perhaps this one has not had its AIS set properly.
