Boat fire in Carrabelle FL on 31 January 2014

Just a head's up... we had a boat fire in Carrabelle a night before last. It was definitely scary and could have been much worse. If the boat was not steel, I shudder to think how differently the outcome might have been.

I posted some pictures too but when I go to dirt I'll get more, closer too. For now I'm simply pleased that disaster was averted.

I'm on my phone so can't see very well. Was this close to the Moorings Marina? Used to keep a boat there some years ago

Hello a64pilot. This was at about marker 9 whereas Moorings is at 17. When you made that final bend before the straightaway, that's where the boats are rafted. If you shopped at Just Right Marine for hardware, it was close to his shop and nearly diagonal from Dockside (the haul out facility)

Now if you drank at Harry's Bar you were across the street from the fire.

This town is built for boaters. The I.G.A. Grocery Store is within sight of the anchorage, as is the library (open wifi!) and the post office too. There is even a real old-time hardware store. I've enjoyed my time here.

Glad it wasn't worse and hope you put it all back together soon. Carrabelle is a neat place and it was certainly built for shrimping and oystering. I spent almost 3 decades tromping around the woods and waters of the Panhandle. All the best to you!

The article says, "That's small town living, when so many pull together to make sure everything turns out okay." It was great to hear how everyone responded so quickly.

The phone booth still exists though it has been superseded by an actual building. I go by there on the way to the post office. They've got a large library too with open wifi. With a booster it's accessible from the anchorage IF the boat is swinging to the north on an outgoing tide. Okay, so that part's not perfect, but the price is superb!

I've made some friends here too and hope to meet up with some again some day. It's a small town that welcomes boaters. I appreciate that.
