NMEA 0183 Baud Rate

I have a fairly old Navman 5340 plotter, and would like to know the baud rate of the NMEA output.

The reason I want to know is that while the 5340 NMEA interfaces nicely with the Icom VHF, my tillerpilots (both Raymarine and Simrad), and with OpenCPN on the laptop, it doesn't work with the nifty little Quark AIS receiver/muxer I recently installed. Quark tell me their unit has a default of 9600 for its input, based on their research of what is common. Perhaps my stuff being oldish means it all runs at 4800?

Quark will reconfigure it for 4800 if I return it, but before I do that, I'd like to know if it's likely to work.

Regards, Graeme

Re: NMEA 0183 Baud Rate

Everything but ais will run at 4800 that is standard. I have never seen anything at 9600. Ais is 38,400

If the plotter is old it will be 4800 out if it's newer you can probably choose between 4800 or 38,400

Thanks for that - I was under the impression that 4800 is pretty standard.
