Re: Hudson to Sarasota `

Any suggestions for what? A trip from the Hudson River to Sarasota? What type of trip? A delivery, or a pleasure cruise? Season? Boat?

?Hudson Florida? to Sarasota.

With your boat (assuming Catalina 30) you can do most of either offshore or ICW.

Part of the decision would be weather (wind/waves offshore).

My suggestion would be, go south.

Seriously, though, a little more detail about what sort of information you are looking for would be helpful. It's a pretty easy trip, with lots of places to stop, and lots of things to see along the way.

And still not enough detail to get any useful answers.

What exactly are you wondering about? What is it that you don't understand about sailing south from Hudson to Sarasota?

It's an easy offshore run with a good weather window. If you run into something you don't like, drop hook off Fort DeSoto in Tampa Bay, or tuck in along the coast. I personally wouldn't bother with the ICW unless I was motoring. It's quite narrow and heavily trafficked with fast boats.

Re: Hudson to Sarasota `

Sorry Guys ..let me start again ...Years ago I took my Catalina 30 down to Sarasota an d tried to get into Big Pass ..it was a no go and kept bumping ground ..after finally getting the Coast Guard they informed me that it was closed due to no dredging etc etc, and we ended up throwing anchor off of Siesta Beach for the night. I was told the only way to get in was to go back to Bradenton and go the ICW. Is it still like this? I would prefer to sail all the way down..I was wondering if anyone else had issues ..and yes I know you have to come in from the south and hug the shore.
