I hear a lot about crossing the 'Great Bahama Bank' from
Bimini to
Nassau, but never about the larger Bahama bank to the south.
I'm trying to plan a realistic
route to cross south of Andros and into the Old Bahama Channel towards
Cuba. There are some very old
charts that show a couple crossings, but I assume that these were pre-Revolution days when
Cuba wasn't the cruisers' void that is now. One went straight south from Great Exuma and one was a
route closer to Andros headed southwest.
Anyone have any first-hand or reliable information? When I leave the
Exumas, I'd like to
head into the Old Bahama Channel and
head west to cross Cay Sal Bank back to the
Florida Keys.
