can I daysail from Lake Worth to Gov't cut, FL?

Within next week, I hope to sail south from Ft. Pierce, FL on shake down cruise of new-to-me Hood 38. I would like to go outside from Lake Worth to Port Everglades in one daysail, then again, from Port Everglades to Gov't Cut in a second daysail. If I leave at first light, are these trips I can make during daylight? My worst case speed (motoring) will be about 5 knots.

I understand gulf stream is pretty close to shore in this area. Is there and internet posting of current gulf stream location that I can use for planning?
Thanks for any guidance.
Tom

I usually go from lake worth to ft lauderdale makes a good day sail. Stop at either lake Sylvia or by the Los olas bridge
Then skip down to miami

Oh stay coastal and no problem with the Gulf Stream. You'll know it if you get into it!!

You don't have to hit the Gulf Stream proper to hit a +/-1kt current heading north. Watch the chart for issues, but if you shade to the shallow side of the 80 foot line you can avoid most of that too. The downside is that there may be fishing and dive boats at that depth.

Also listen to the NTMs tonight on 22a. There was a sunk sailboat off Boynton Inlet.

If you stay within about 2 miles of shore the only problem you'll have will be that you will be close reaching in prevailing winds. Might make for a long day, but doable. If you happen to get a more easterly than southeasterly wind it will be...a breeze. pete
