Re-Galvanizing an Anchor

Has anyone ever had an anchor regalvanized. I have a Bruce that has spent much of its life on the bottom and needs to be renewed.

No, but I recently glass beaded an old manual windless with galvanized drums, and used the spray on cold galvanize paint. So far, no rust. A friend just sprayed the stuff on his anchor chain, and it seems to be holding up well. I would think the same process would work for an anchor.

Many with no problems.
NOTE: If you have a CQR type with lead in the front make sure it gets put back. It won't work without it.

I don't see why you couldn't re galvanize the Bruce. Take it to someone that does chain and I'm sure they would do it for a reasonable price.

Yes, a CQR or two. Take to a galvanizing shop and no issue -- came back like new.

In UK the galvanising shops normally have a minimum cost (which is quite a percentage of the cost of a new anchor. However, when I had a tabernacle that needed a re-galvanising I went to a local boat trailer manufactuer and got him to add my tabernacle in with his next load to the galvaniser, so it only cost the weight of the zinc. - a tiny percentage of the minimum cost!

Should be in the order of US$1 per Kg (2.2lbs) for the galvanizing, or their minimum, depending on the place. They will probably also charge you around half that to clean off the existing galvanizing etc and prep it.

Afterward, expect to have to spend some time knocking off jagged bits of zinc etc.

Make sure the anchor is in good condition under the galvanizing. No point re-zinc'ing something that's half rust.
