Mooring bouys

Let me try this again in the form of a poll.
A southeast town on the ICW is considering installing moorings for transiet boats. Would you be willing to pay for a safe mooring? YES or NO

Although I am not cruising now, I would say yes, but there is a huge blank in the poll. Is this town charging $95.00 a night? or $15.00 a night? When you say safe, do you mean safe from locals sawing off your outboard? Safe from constant wakes caused by speed boats? Safe from Hurricane Helga?

Too many variables, but I would say yes to a protected mooring for a reasonable fee.

A few towns have them. If they keep the price reasonable I would take one. Annapolis is $30! way too much. $15 - $20 depending on the location is reasonable. Vero Beach puts up to 3 boats on a mooring. Nice system and great folks running it. We spent a few days there @ $15 a day and will do it again.

safe as in not dragging anchor. The bottom is soft mud and a gust of wind will send boats sailing across the harbor.

If the price was reasonable I would be willing. If anchoring there is a problem I would probably opt to skip the town and find some nice bottom with good holding somewhere else. The business community might enjoy a few extra visitors now and then as well, so they should at least supply a dinghy dock to go with them (no additional charge).

I am willing but have learned the hard way.
Do Not rent a mooring in Block Island. They drop a mushroom in the morning and put a boat on it in the afternoon. This is after dragging the night before into my bow.

I think Nantucket is $75 a night. Not worth it! Some places there is no choice. Example- Matinicus ME, the only way to stay there is on a mooring tied to a line run across the harbor bottom. Good deal at $25/night. Cuttyhunk was $35 but I think went to $40, a good deal in my book, a very special place.
