Electric Windlass recommendations?

Aloha Sailors,
I have an Aries 32 (16,000 lbs disp) here in Hawaii and as I'm over 60, I'm getting tired of of the manual anchor haul . . . looking to replace with horizontal electric windlass . . . 33 lb Bruce Anchor and 250 ft of 5/16 chain . . . we often anchor in 30-40 ft . . .
Recommendations ?

Re: Electric Windlass recommendations?

I installed a verticle Anchorlift brand windlass 2 years ago. It replaced a older SL Lewmar "spirit" windlass. The ANCHORLIFT was priced right. WM matched an online source (it doesn't do it anymore locally). It was a stainless model (mako?) 1200 or 1500w for $1000. It seams to be well made and has performed as expected so far. The one design flaw in the previous windlass was a verticle mounted motor. Once the seal went, all mud and water entered the motor.

I like the Lewmar, but I wouldn't be tied to it. In Hawaii I would likely be more concerned about who will warantee the installation. In my experience once installed properly they work forever regardless of make.

Re: Electric Windlass recommendations?

When I bought my 393 this (actually an older painted model) came with it. I thought it was a bit chintzy but Beneteau is built to a price point and it was standard equipment.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the performance. After ten years of cruising every winter and anchoring all the time I can say it's pretty good. Mine came with a 3/8 gypsy and I have a 45# Manson Supreme. The brushes went on the motor two years ago and I installed a new motor as I couldn't find replacement brushes.

Price is quite reasonable and the performance belies its dubious looks.
