Re: Disembarking from a Dingy

I secure the dinghy aside the boat using lines from the dinghy's bow and stern when entering/exiting.

Re: Disembarking from a Dingy

Often when its rough I reach up and grab the davits and swing over. The worst thing I see people do is step on the bottom step of the ladder and the dinghy rams them when it rises. I had a dinghy episode not to long ago that wasnt about boarding but,,, i left the hogfish in stock Island toward mother ship at an hour before sunset, the wind wasnt too strong but had been from the south most of the day. The chop got bigger and bigger as i approached the mouth then i ran into solid sargassum grass that had built up in the inlet mouth. What a pita. No chance on motoring through it. Took 2 hrs to row a third of a mile back to the boat. Was beat by then.

Re: Disembarking from a Dingy

I just secure my dinghy with the paddle and then hop in or out

Re: Disembarking from a Dingy

Here's a tip:

Where the capshroud comes down to the chainplate is the calmest place if it's bouncy. So if you tie asied there, it will be the easies place to get aboard in those circumstances. Please note, you may need to make a step, if the step is too high to the deck. We have one that goes through our perf toe rail, but if you have a nearby stanchion you can lash to that and to the capshroud.
