UV Resistant Dingy Seat

I have bought two of the generally available, padded dinghy seats with underseat storage. Each one has lasted approximately 1 year before the sun rots the cloth (its a 600 denier poly which is apparently not UV resistant). I've sewn them back together about 5 times and put a sunbrella cover on the padded seat to cover rips and rot. The Sunbrella seat is the only thing that's holding together at this point:-)

I refuse to buy another version of this poor quality garbage.

Does anyone know of a padded, UV resistant, dinghy seat that has underseat storage (oil for the outboard, dinghy pump, tools, etc.)? Something water resistant and of decent quality?

Try making one in varnished marine plywood and make an acrylic canvas bag to go with it. This setup will last ages and is easily serviceable.

Re: UV resistant dingy seat

The issue is not the seat. The seat is fiberglass and aluminum. Its an AB 10.6 RIB and plenty durable. The issue is having some underseat storage and a padded seat for my wife or guests.

The stuff you can buy that goes OVER the seat and attaches with Velcro is usually crap. I wanted to know if there was something better out there before I resorted to making something myself.

I am afraid you will have to restore to some form of acrylic cover - on our boat thick Dacron canvas (I re-use older sails to make ad-hoc cheap biminis) last max 18 months. At the same time, our 10 y.o. Sunbrella (acrylic) cockpit curtains look perfectly fine - we had to redo the stitches once and that's that.

I may be missing something here, but you mentioned sewing sunbrella as a patch so why not simply make a sunbrella seat cover??

You mentioned that you could sew?
