Question Simpson Lawrence D series Davit modification

Hi

This is my 1st post and hopefully someone can give me advice. I have an Oyster 53 with D series 250kg davits. I would like to modify them to incorporate self tailing winches instead of the manufacturers gearbox lifting mechanism ( totally unreliable)
I wondered if anyone had already modified their Simpson Davits to overcome the gearbox problems?
Alternatively if some genius had found a way to use the electric deck winches to raise and lower the dinghy - Avon 3.M with 20HP outboard.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Great forum guys
