Best place for a NON-INFLATABLE LIFEBOAT to be placed

On a normal size cruising boat with a pilothouse, like 39', let's say you have a non inflatable lifeboat with you. In other words, it's a solid dingy like Portland Pudgy. Where in the cruising sailboat is the best and easiest place to access to the lifeboat in an unlikely event of an emergency?

Re: Best place for a NON-INFLATABLE LIFEBOAT to be placed

First, maybe a bit nit picky but I don't think a typical hard dinghy would technically qualify as a lifeboat. Might be a backup for a liferaft and, if unsinkable maybe a primary option but as designed anbd built these are primarily dinghies.

As far as placement, I think it is a more an issue of where it will fit on the boat more than the best place. On a cruising boat that size you have two options.

If the "lifeboat" is not too heavy you can hang it on davits.

The only other place to put it is on the foredeck in front of the mast.

Anywhere it will fit with the least interference with lines, fittings and vision. On my Radford 14.8 (substantially bigger than 39') I kept my Avon inflatable with outboard attached on the aft deck. It was lifted into an out of the drink via the topping lift & a mast winch. Simple and effective and no ugly davits dangling off the stern.

In front of mast.
