Taking it all into account I've decided to leave the lines at the mast, at least until we've given the system a good try, but will definitely use some form of restraint so that one has 2 free hands while working there.
The ideas re the reefing will come in useful!
Mast pulpits are a welcome addition for this. I've had boats with and without, much prefer with.
