Thoughts on Steel Spars ?

Harlaken, thankyou for your input. I would definately buy used tapered aluminum spars provided they were round in section. I dont like to pay full price for anything, so If I go with aluminum you can bet I'll be scrounging around for a deal.

Today I finished the drawings and sent them to the rigger, and will wait for his imput before making any decisions.

Yeah I would certainly look in to a freedom or non-such spar. That might be exactly what you are looking for.

I have decided to go with aluminum for my spars, and the standing rigging will be synthetic. I am currently searching for tapered light poles. I would prefer these to be 5000 series aluminum vs the stadard 6061, since I will be welding on these quite a bit. I had no luck with finding used non-such spars and even If I did, I would be conserned about welding on them given that they are tempered.
