Sta Set X

I found this in a cubby on a new to me boat, Can you please confirm for me that this is Sta-Set X.

If so, I have heard that its hard to splice. I can splice double braid, and will go on line for this, but I would like any tips.

Thank you

Re: Sta Set X

You need to unwrap the core to confirm but pretty sure it’s staset x. My recommendation is to replace it with a normal double braid or, when low stretch is required, with a line that has a Dyneema core with polyester cover.

Re: Sta Set X

Stay Set X is perhaps the very worst line ever made, for anything. Lousy "hand", gets stiff very soon after employment, ugh.

Unless you have gobs of it and are willing to reinvent the wheel in learning how truly poor it is, just forget about it.

Don't even bother to try and splice Sta-set x. Just use a halyard knot if you absolutely have to use it.... but preferably keep it just as a spare.

*it also coils horribly.
