Question Spinnaker Pole Brand?

I have a Tartan 33 that came with a telescoping spinnaker pole... The button/ spring clip that locks it in place has broken, and I am trying to find a replacement.. The pole is so old I can;t find a brand name on it, but the end fitting has a logo that looks a little like a Forespar, but not exact. Anyone know what this logo mark is? There is also a rectangular marking on the pole itself that is illegible.

Also, I cannot find online any reference to telescoping or adjustable length spinnaker poles. The basic pole length (outer tube ) is 2.5" in diameter, and the inner one is 2".

Re: Spinnaker Pole Brand?

It sure looks like from the remnants of the sticker below that it says Forespar

I also just found a Forespar logo that is exactly like your picture.

Re: Spinnaker Pole Brand?

Yep, that's the Forespar logo, a spinnaker with an "F" in the middle.

Look here to see if it matches up with what Forespar says they provided for the T33. It may be a whisker pole (these are frequently adjustable) rather than spinnaker pole (frequently not adjustable).

Whisker Pole: 12.5' LC 10-18, #401106
Spinnaker Pole: UXP-300-UXP, #304107
Mast Car: Ring Car, #331000 YES

Definitely Forespar. No question about it.
You can replace the end fitting if the rest of the pole is in good/working condition.

Re: Spinnaker Pole Brand?

Adjustable whisker poles are not spinnaker poles. They are not designed to take the compression loads of a spinnaker and barely that of a poled out sail. You know how I found that out.

Re: Spinnaker Pole Brand?

Contact Forespar. When my Whisker pole had some internal parts fail (sheaves, it was a line control pole) I contacted them and they sent me all the bits I needed without charge ... for a 25-year-old pole!!! Even included a new control line!

Re: Spinnaker Pole Brand?

Thanks everyone. I finally got the pole apart.. It is definitely a forespar telescoping whisker pole.. Though, it has been used as a spinnaker pole for years. The pin that is installed in the inner pole was evidently spring loaded; the crazy thing is when I took it all apart, the pin dropped out but, no spring.

Anyway, I will contact forespar to see if they have a replacement spring, but i am wondering what held the button in place fore/ aft. If worse comes to worse I can put in a few through bolts and turn it into a fixed length pole.... just just kind of nice to be able to put it into the chocks. Here's a picture of the pin: (ignore the rubber band). I have considered re-locating the chock as well if I need to make it a fixed pole.

Thanks again for all the insights.

Rock.

Re: Spinnaker Pole Brand?

So, if, rather than replacing the pin above, assuming I could find one< and I used fast pins as suggested in another thread on whisker poles, , would I get pins that go all the way thru the full diameter of the pole, or just thru the inner and our wall sections?

Oh and in my last post I had not yet realized that there was a button at EACCH end of the little bronze colored sleeve, which would keep it in place fore and aft.

thanks- Rock
