Removing Harken Mk III Unit 2 Furlng Drum

Hi,

I'm trying to remove the furling drum on my Harken Mk III roller furler and one of the 4 machine screws that hold the two halves together is seized into the threaded insert in the other half. Having tried to undo it the threaded insert is now rotating freely in its hole in the drum. Part of the threaded insert was protruding beyond the end of the machine screw so I tried cutting a slot in it and using a screw driver to hold it but the end just broke off.

Any ideas how to get it out, ideally in a way that doesn't trash the drum?

It's probably too small for an extractor to work?

You could try a shop with an edm (electro discharge machining).
I had a broken exhaust manifold screw on my wife's motorcycle that this worked well.

The furler should have been assembled with loctite per the instructions. Drill/grind the old bits out, then drill a new hole close to the old one.
