Hi SailboatRon, Welcome to the Forum. I have been looking for awhile at upgrading my boarding ladder. The original steps were about an inch and a half wide and they cut into my wife's feet. I ended up going to a marine consignment store and picking up wide steps that I custom fit onto my stainless frame. I wish I could find a ladder that extends a step or two further into the water, but I have not been able to.

I am doing the same exact update.

A lot of those are just custom made.... which sounds more expensive than it is. Find any reputable welder and go to them with some measurements and some pictures.

Our existing ladder got crunched by the previous owner and has developed serious rust problems where it as hit. I would rather just replace it than have it break under my weight and gash my leg open somewhere remote.

I'm going to have mine made of a wider steel bar to make it easier to hold on to when wet and also just have them weld on metal steps with a nice non-skid tread.

Re: I want to find a boarding ladder like this

If I go back into freshwater I will have to have a ladder like this , if I launch her in the ocean this year I might not have passengers interested in swimming as much . I can build one out of steel but it will rust badly so have not do so.

Hamilton marine or similar shops have such ladders with extensions. You can widen the steps by adding wider teak pads and through bolting them to the existing steps.

Ours looks very much like the OP's linked photo. Custom made. Teak treads. When we got the boat the teak treads were varnished and slippery as all hell when wet. They work great now that the varnish has been removed.

I've seen lots of pre-made steps to go off the side rail, but none really setup like ours available pre-made.

I have the same problem and need two more steps for my short admiral princess
I was thinking this might be a good alternative.

White Water Marine in Port Huron, MI will make custom ladders for quite reasonable www.whitewatermarine.com I can send picture later. They hinged mine so it doesn't become a lightning rod and get deep enough in the water that you don't have to be a gymnast to get up

Re: I want to find a boarding ladder like this

I couldn't find a boating ladder that worked with my transom so I modified a deck ladder with 3" steps by adding a four step telescoping ladder to it. The deck ladder pivots and can be removed by pulling two pins. The telescoping ladder extends three feet into the water. The whole thing can pivot up to discourage pirates. Yarrrrrr!

Judging from the photo, you're in Australia, right?

I don't know why this forum flipped the picture. This picture spends most of its time as a normal right side up pic in my photo library. Sorry folks.
