Re: How to make a watertight glass deck?

jfyi - there is stronger composite rod (and flat bar) available than g10, but it is 100% not necessary, G10 is more than sufficient for the applications discussed above, and is easier to get and less expensive than the more sophisticated stuff. Composite chainplates (note: and cassette rudder pintles) seem to be the one area where for instance extra properties of uni-direction carbon is called for.

Re: How to make a watertight glass deck?

Now I understand better; thank's again, Breaking Waves!

In any case I will also ask specialists, wouldn't dare to make composite chainplates or attachments for the inner forestay without supervision. (Fortunately in my area there's a shipyard which builds great alu boats and also some with glass deck, maybe/hopefully they will provide expertise)

Re: How to make a watertight glass deck?

Haven't read all the answers but my stanchions actually bolt to my toerail and not the deck. Seems to be a decent arrangement. Certainly doesn't leak through the deck and despite having bent one while docking in high winds there was no damage to anything other than that stanchion.
