Dyneema Spectra keeps mast up should stainless standing rigging fail.

Has anyone installed Dyneema to provide a short term stop gap should the stainless standing rigging fail?

It seems like a good idea, it might bring you that important few minutes that could save your mast and rigging.

What I imagine I mean by this is not dyneema from chainplates to the top of the mast , but short sections that run from the wire bypassing the fittings and then to the mast for example.

Anyone done something similar or does anyone have some comments....

Why don't you just have your rigging inspected. If still paranoid, have it load tested.
Having a bunch of extra line hanging from the mast seems odd.

I understand what you are saying but its not really "a bunch of extra line hanging from the mast" you see, I imagine that if we used 4 mm in light grey or white, with a swl of 3000kg then it would be quite invisible from the deck.

(could potentially keep your mast up during the sea trial after the rerigging!!)

If your confidence is the re-rig is so small that you feel you need backups, I think the problem is with the re-rig. Why not engineer things so that confidence is maximized? Unless you're doing something super-experimental or cutting edge, none of it is rocket science--there are pretty standard protocols that keep thousands of rigs up.

No disrespect intended but it sounds like a well thought out solution to a nonexistent
problem

Tend to agree. If the backups are too light it's unlikely they would hold under the (presumably extreme) conditions the primary failed in. It would be simpler (and cheaper) to just over-engineer the primaries rather than going to the elaborate extreme of designing redundant, independent end fittings and shrouds that don't have the same safety margin as more robust primaries.

Redundant rigging will slap against the main rigging and the noise will drive you crazy. Plus chafe will become an issue.

Use Dyneema running rigging so that it can be used to save the day when a shroud or stay fails
