I use a Top climber ATN Home Page -- sailing, sail, storm, gale, tacker, spinnaker, sleeve, stasher, flasher, douser, chute scoop, sally, case, furler, roller, reefed sail, single handed, short handed, cruising, transatlantic, round the world, Jules Verne Trophy, BOC, w rather than a conventional bosun's chair. I'm usually working by myself and can go up the stick, whenever I want, without help. It takes a litttle practice to get up the mast quickly but once you master it, it's a piece of cake. Last time I worked on my mast, went up and down 4 times in an hour. Forgot a tool once and dropped a part another. and just wanted to take a break another time. Did it all without having to draggon anyone else to wait on me. Another big advantage of the Top Climber is you can work on top of the mast. Bosun's chairs won't get up high enough to work on the Mast head.

Do use a Prussic knot as a backup just in case the climbing halyard malfunctions.

Aloha
