Boom Halyards

Well I done it,
I was pulling the halyards out of my boom to take them home to wash in the washing machine to clean them up,
The first two came out easy with the leaders left in,
The third one parted from the leader and is now laying inside the boom unconnected to any thing,
Its the wire cable that connects to the slider on top of the boom,
I have no idea on getting the wire cable out or back inside the Boom,
The boom is laying on my deck,
I could just pull the cable out at the rear end of the boom, But then I could not get it back inside the boom,

Its the Seldon boom on a 2003 Gemini 105mc Catamaran,
I need all the help I can get,
I cant find anything on the internet or youtube on how they got the halyards inside the boom originally, or just to replace them,

Thanks in advance,
Brian,

Re: Boom Halyards

Try your internet search again but replace halyard with reefing lines/outhaul or lines or just rope.

Re: Boom Halyards

Gonto a hardware store and buy a “coil of flex wire” used by electricians to pull cables in conduits. It is rather stiff and you can push it through the boom. Attach line when it comes out and pull back. Easy., good luck.

Re: Boom Halyards

Or replace boom with mast. Depends on what outcome you're really looking for.

A strong magnet can be purchased cheaply, for example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PEGGIE-Reco...tXYEBnj955zEhQ

Tie the leader line through the hole of a relatively large steel nut, and use the magnet to pull the nut through the inside of the boom. Works well, and you can even steer inside the boom, to some extent.

Fish tape. They come in any length you can use on a boat.

Re: Boom Halyards

Sounds to me like it's your outhaul, not a halyard that is stuck inside you boom.

And I'd guess the other ones you pulled out also not halyards, but are reefing lines.

Using the correct terminology would definitely help A google on "lost outhaul inside boom" turned up lots of links including this one:

Re: Boom Halyards

Sorry about the terminology, But they are just ropes to me, Im a motor boat man, Not a sailor,

Thank you all for your help,

Except the middle one which is a steel cable inside the boom connected to a rope,
It connects to a traveller that slides along the top of the boom inside a groove,
The cable connects to a rope inside the boom that comes out the end at the clevis pin for the mast connection,
There are three rope jammers on the end of the boom, next to the mast connection,
I ran out of light when this happened, so I didnt get pictures,
I will get pictures when I am down at the boat today,

I will try shoving a stiff cable thru the boom and see how that goes,
Problem being is the pulleys they go thru are a very tite fit and no room for taped joins to go thru easily,

Re: Boom Halyards

Thanks StuM,
I can stand the boom on end to get the whatever it is thru the boom,
But I am not sure if it has a traveller or car inside the boom that the wire cable is connected too,
I will pull the wire back to the end today to see what is on the end of the wire cable,
The end away from the boom is screwed on, But the mast end is rivetted on to the Boom,

Re: Boom Halyards

So to get the line through the boom may be two steps. One us run a fish tape (electricians tool) and feed a leader. The sew the end of the leader to the end of the reef line ur outhaul and pull that through.
