boom furler conversion

Has any body successfully converted a boom furler back to slab reef with lazy jacks using the furling boom. Any feedback appreciated Tazzie

Re: boom furler conversion

I did on my boat although I am not using lazy jacks. The costliest item was having a sail maker make two rows of reefing points on the main. That set me back $500. I then added two turning blocks, two jam cleats and a standard cleat to the boom.

Re: boom furler conversion

I've never done it, but I understand it used to be fairly common to do. My old boat had the original 1963 roller furling boom that had been converted to slab reefing. It worked fine on my boat, if done properly it should be good for you.

Re: boom furler conversion

If you mean an old style roll up furling boom, yes; very common... just pin it at the mast so it can't rotate and install blocks and tack hooks. If you mean a new boom furler like a Leisure Furl WHY???? ;-)
