raritan crown toilet problem

I have a older Raritan crown toilet, works good except it started not releasing the water when flushing system, it just fills up and does not let the water go out to travel to the Purasan system. Can someone help advise problem, and any advise to fix it. thanks

Re: raritan crown toilet problem

Sounds like a clasic blockage to me..
Has anyone put something down there they shouldn't Take the outlet pipe off and blow down it to make sure its clear... if so
Remove the front access plate and have a look... Messy job but the only way ... Could also be the joker valve.

Re: raritan crown toilet problem

If I take the outlet pipe off will the water from the toilet bowl leak out, if I remove the access plate (in the front I hope) will it leak out the front, but I guess then you can get to the joker valve.....about 2 months ago it started leaking water out after flushing sometimes, but now won't let the water out, there been no items put down the system, not even much toilet paper.

Here is a link to an exploded view and parts list of the Crown Toilet.

"If I take the outlet pipe off will the water from the toilet bowl leak out, "
Yes

"if I remove the access plate (in the front I hope) will it leak out the front"
Yes

"but I guess then you can get to the joker valve"
The joker valve is inside the discharge (part 1222)

This is going to be an unpleasant job. It's probably a blockage but it might be a broken Discharge Impeller.

Re: raritan crown toilet problem

Putting the wrong brand of toilet paper or even ANY toilet paper is not a good idea. I think you will have to get the rubber gloves out and in future put a plastic bin next to the head for ANY paper.

I service boats for Sunsail around here and its one of the worst jobs unblocking heads.. You wouldn't believe what people put down them ... Sounds like a good time to fix that leak
The discharge pump on the old crowns is plastic Rebuild kit cost me about 400usd. Then the casing started leaking so had to throw it all away. Jabsco from now on cheap and chearful.
Come to think of it I still have a lot of spares for one of those things if your interested.

Re: raritan crown toilet problem

Yes, there is a blockage at the ell coming out of the macerater area and the (what looks to be the joker valve) joker is in bad shape, looks like it feeds thru, the toilet is a raritan crown model DD that I understand may be an old part. Any ideas or a sub. on the part or if lucky maybe a old part? please advise Thanks

Not sure I want to see an "exploded view" of a blocked head!

Re: raritan crown toilet problem

Wow that goes back a ways! If I recall they made two models of the Crown toilet back in the day. The regular Crown was for use when it was mounted at or above the waterline. The Crown DD (Deep Draft) was for use below the waterline. I think the joker valve was the same but you can just call Raritan and ask them. They used to offer a trade in on older Crown motor/pump assemblies. You send them your old toilet less the bowl plus money and they send you a rebuilt or new replacement.

Kettlewell, I think we need a thread titled "The Proper use of Explosives in Marine Sanitation Systems". Sounds like a Master's Thesis to me.

Re: raritan crown toilet problem

Raitan's Crown IMHO is yesterday's technology. The Sea Era and the Marine Elegance are far superior. I have both the Crown & the ME, both fresh water flushes. The ME is by far the better toilet/head on our boat.

There have been times I've been tempted--like when I had to rebuild the head on my birthday in the Virgin Islands.
