Re: Nylon Deck Fills

I've never seen any nylon deck fills, only nylon thru-hulls--which aren't recommended because there aren't any UV inhibitors in 'em, so they turn to powder in a few years when exposed to sunlight. I dunno whether that's only true of thru-hulls, or whether nylon can't be UV inhibited...but I'd stick with stainless or bronze deck fills if I were you. We KNOW they're UV resistant..and also as durable as the boat itself.

Re: Nylon Deck Fills

Seadog makes some fiberglass reinforced nylon deck fills. The material looks similar to Forespar Marlon. We've been selling them for several years and none have come back. I've never used one but they look ok. I would be concerned that fuel nozzles could damage the threads if you weren't careful. They don't address the UV issue on their website but I would choose the black ones over the white ones because the black pigment should give some UV protection. I like that they have different colored caps available to color code what they are used for. They also say what they are for. Here is a link to the Seadog website: Sea-Dog : Quality Marine, Industrial and Rigging Hardware
I don't have them up on my website yet but we do stock them.
Bronze or stainless should last the life of the boat, these probably won't.
Peggy, when are you going to visit Miami?

Re: Nylon Deck Fills

Just for info heres the reply I got from SeaDog about UV and strength of threads
Yes they are UV protected, Black will fade in the hot Florida sun but the plastic will last for 25 years. As for the threads the plastic is fiberglass reinforced Nylon and is very strong.

Thanks for checking with Seadog on that. Now I've learned something about one of the products I sell.

I had these ones

on my last boat for 5+ years with not a single sign of colour change or degradation.
