Head Poll v2.0 - what type do you have?
A couple of years ago I conducted the first poll on what kind of head people have. The results were interesting. You can see them here:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...-184086-5.html
Given the recent spate of head-related threads, I’m curious to see how the numbers shake out now. So, here’s version #2.
I’m using the same categories as the first one, although I’ve altered the descriptions a bit to be more accurate.
So, have at it. What head do you have. If you have more than one type, pick the primary one.

Oh come on. There’s got to be others who care … or is it just me?

Re: Head Poll v2.0 - what type do you have?
I have a Wilcox Crittenden skipper head ( bronze pump) and 35 gallon holding tank. Need to replace all hoses and rebuild head. Thinking about just buying a composting head.

Vacuflush system here with 5 heads and central vacuum pump. Apart from one damaged duckbill valve that we had to replace, it has worked flawlessly for 2 years of living aboard full time.

Re: Head Poll v2.0 - what type do you have?
Electric with holding tank but no pump out, not sure where to vote. The heads just pump straight into the tank, and the tank empties by gravity to the thru-hull. Once we're over 3nm from shore (preferably at high tide) we open the valve and out it goes.
We don't even have a fuel dock round here and I've certainly never seen a "pump out station" on my travels. Guessing they may have them in Auckland?
I suppose option 3 is closest...

Re: Head Poll v2.0 - what type do you have?
One of the better days in my life was removing the old marine head abomination (Okay that was not easy nor fun or the best anything), and installing my C Head (Yeah that was easy fast and fun).
I have NO understanding how anyone would prefer to use a holding tank and pump out VS a composter. it is not even close to being the same. Sure pumping overboard is pretty easy but then there is that joker valve, a one way valve, hoses, keeping track of the Y-Valve etc.
Yeah I am an anarchist.

Electric with macerator pump, 'Y' valve between holding tank and overboard (through hull) discharge, holding tank has pump out capability through deck.....

When we switched to a composter we had a fully functioning WC Skipper II head with 25 gallon holding tank. Worked great. I gave it to a friend who put it to good use.

Wow, 36% of boaters now have composting heads. Impressive .
Come on folks. The first poll had 179 voters.

Where is the "Maceration to holding tank, no pump out, with diverter valve," option?
Guess I'll select other.

Re: Head Poll v2.0 - what type do you have?
Mike, I’m trying to respond from my iPhone in web view and I have the message “You may not vote on this poll.”
We have a single VacuFlush to a holding tank with deck pump out and a manual pump for overboard discharge when offshore.

Sorry, I guess I didn’t include all possible variations. It sounds like you have a Type I though, unless you’re saying you store the effluent and then pump out on land later or offshore, in which case I guess it would be a Type III.

Not sure why this would be the case. I don’t use the CF app. Maybe a Mod can answer. But it sounds like you have a Type III head.
