4-108 question

Where is the best place to plumb-in the water heater lines from the coolant. I have been using a tee that is just after the oil cooler and then a return to the exhaust manifold jacket. Now after installing a new water heater, the engine operates hotter than before and the water is way hotter than necessary.

Where do you attach the hoses to heat he water?

Re: 4-108 question

Possibly a globe valve added between the tee and the water heater would allow you a way to control the flow to the heater. Right now, too much water is going to the heater.
Normally water is taken at it's hottest. You want to take coolant before any heat exchangers. Otherwise once the heater is hot, you're returning what should be cooled coolant as hot. Back to where cool coolant normally enters. That place to take coolant is usually before the thermostat. Some engines have a plug in the head near the thermostat. Once the water is hot, coolant that is too hot is returned. Robbing your engine of cooling.
You'll need the valve to control the flow, but another method is to install a tee where the hot fresh water leaves the heater. Install a temp sensor that opens at 180° or whatever temp is the highest you run your heater at. Add a 12 volt water solenoid valve in the coolant line and it will shut off when the water's hot. Insulate the tee so it's reading of the tank temp.

What if I just reduced the size of the hoses feeding the water heater to 1/4" form 3/8"? Bob
