SD50 lower leg replacement questions

I have a few questions about replacing the lower leg of my SD50. I assume it is an SD50 because it has the filler cap and dipstick.

I just received a used lower leg to check out, but the shaft is bigger on this replacement leg, my clutch cone assembly fits in too small, the splines on the clutch pack are smaller than the lower leg assembly.

I was under the impression they were the same regardless, although I thought these were both SD50.

Any thoughts on how I can check, can I adapt the piece that joins them, welding together the two halves of the connector piece(female spline fitting), or what?

I am removing my leg from the boat today tomorrow and hope to learn more, but I thought maybe some of you here might have some info I can use.

The other option I have is an SD60, I have not seen it yet.

Thanks!

Re: SD50 lower leg replacement questions

Find the tag on the mounting flange to confirm what you actually have. I know they changed the drive shaft part number four times.

This is my problem, the Drive itself says SD50, and has the oil dipstick I would expect, but the bell housing says SD40
