Needing help with a Kanzaki KBW10

I have purchased my first sailboat a Spirit 28 a few weeks ago and had a few issues that I have mostly over came, except one.

The problem is with reverse. It takes 20 seconds or more to engage. Once it engages its rock solid with no slipping.

I tried adjusting the linkage but no help. Forward works perfectly but the reverse is very slow engaging every time.

Any help would be greatly apricated.

Could you describe the engine/tranny? At this point, we don't even know whether it's inboard or outboard.

Kanzaki kbw20 (from thread title) is inboard.

After looking closer to the tag it's a Kanzaki Hurth Kbw10 bolted to a Yanmar 2QM15.

Ive seen a little about deglazing the clutch but can't find much about it.
