Re: ID Borg Warner trans

The below gives sizes you can check to see what model you have but probably 71c as these are for the lower Horse Power engines such as yours(up to 182 Hp) with 72c up to 274 Hp.

Length from Front end of box to end of coupling 71c = 16.89 " or 429.1 mm
72c = 17.79" or 451.8 mm

Money would be on the 71c

TAD for Velvet Drive 71 72 Inline Transmissions, Velvet Drive Transmissions, Velvet Drive Marine Transmissions

Cheers Steve

Re: ID Borg Warner trans

Captsteve53's dimensions are correct.

The fluid return over the top of the planetary gear "bucket" means this is a 2.10:1 ratio gear. Be aware that unlike other 71c /72c gears, the pump on the 2.10:1 units cannot be re-indexed to change input rotation.

I have the 71c with the Perkins 4-108 and it does have a plate on it saying 2.1 to one ratio. The plate is hard to read and maybe it's not 2.10 but something a little different. I do not have a metal fluid return over the top as his photo shows. The dip stick looks the same and is in the same location and that is how I change the fluid. Can not locate a drain plug and I merely use a hand pump with a tube to suck the fluid out and then add just the same amount as removed not knowing how high up the fluid is suppose to be on that dipstick. I do have an oil cooler on the Perkins and just assumed that it was for the engine oil rather that the tranny fluid, but now not sure.

Re: ID Borg Warner trans

Thank you all for the info.
It does have a trans cooler which was removed to get a better picture and to look for the tag, which of course is not there.
Thanks
