Re: single sideband receiver only

We are Ssb/ham users currently in pacific Mexico. the reliable net is Sonrisa in which the NOAA OFFPZ7 forecast is read every morning. During the winter most of the net controllers are around Puerto Vallerta and Manzanillo. It may be difficult to hear them north of Loreto in the gulf at times depending on propagation for that day. The amigo net is currently on hold due to lack of participation. Many boats now rely on Starlink to get weather and it would not be difficult to ask a neighbor boat equipped with Starlink for a weather report by vhf, plus it’s a good way to meet your neighbors.

Re: single sideband receiver only

Friends of mine have cruised the SOC for the past 15 years. They only get weather from a small SSB receiver, listening to the nets. Furthermore, these days many boats have either iridium go or starlink and you can just dinghy over and ask for updated weather.

Re: single sideband receiver only

Starlink rocks. Not too expensive to buy. Service isn’t cheap but you don’t need it for more than a few months.
Add PredictWind pro and you’re rocking.
I’m doing the same trip this fall.
