Haha. I want to see those whalehunting capts face when this monster put full speed ahead aiming to their starboard side... lol

The plumb bow is just a fashion statement. :-)

Them rogue whalers will just have to unleash a rogue wave at that 'thing' and she will bury her bow and not come up for a fortnight... no reserve buoyancy in that bow... same N/A as Steve Job's 'boat' maybe?

Anybody else says that it is attractive and I shall report them to the mods for having appallingly bad taste....

Now that X bow that's really ugly, better suited on a train. The warrior has a knife edge bow as in the SS Stockholm of Andrea Doria fame. It's really designed for military ships. The company called it Axe bow.

Re: New Ocean Warrior is a Beauty

From memory when they first announced they were commissioning this thing, the shape was not so much to cut ice, but was to be able to protect the ship in I'd fields which the poachers so often head towards. So I presume this one will be able to maintain the chase through growler fields.

I think the intent is as to be like a find pursuit vessel that will maintain the chase until the other vessels can get involved.

Re: New Ocean Warrior is a Beauty

Is it just me but is this hull design very reminiscent of modern yacht hull designs.
A light plumb bow maximizing water line length. Flat light beamy stern with all the weight midships.
She'll be fast without hobby horsing too much. Might be a handful in some seas though.

Don't turn this into an anti Sea Shepherd thread. If you start posting anti sea shepherd posts I'll assume your trolling and ask the moderators to respond.
If I were the captain I'd have installed reinforced hardened steel giant can-openers around the hull below the water line just for when those whaling ships try ramming my ship. Surprise Surprise , How do you like me now, I'd say over channel 16 as they're listing. I love the Sea Shepard.

It's actually started in the oil industry geared towards hauling more cargo. More support/supply/multi-purpose vessel companies are starting to have more plumb bows to have more tankage below and to have a longer deck space. They most probably used an existing Damon hull design and tailored it for whatever it is Sea Shepard does. Supposedly they handle seas better, I unfortunately haven't sailed on one with and Ax bow or X bow.

Here's to hoping they have a successful sea trial, those can bring out the bugs

Re: New Ocean Warrior is a Beauty

What on earth is beautiful about this vessel? Looks more in the fugly camp to me.

This does not rule out it being well suited to whatever purpose the designer was addressing, but aesthetically it ain't to my taste.

I hope that it has a purpose beyond launching stink bombs...

Rustic,

What's sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander.
I know you're an even handed chap, so no doubt you are also assuming that this is trolling and have reported it to the moderators.
